Threat against Taroona High School NOT credible

Tasmania Police would like to reassure the students and staff at Taroona High School that a threat, posted on a website on 16 August, has been assessed as NOT credible.

Police advise that students and staff should go about their business as usual.

The threat, which was posted on a US-based social website, was very similar to other non-credible threats made against the University of Tasmania and other Australian universities last year.

The safety of the Tasmanian community is always our first priority.

As always, anyone who sees anything suspicious or out of the ordinary is asked to call police on 131 444 or the National Security Hotline 1800 123 400.

Note to Editors:

We ask that you please give consideration to limiting the coverage of non-credible / hoax threats. They are designed to cause maximum public fear and disruption and media coverage is one of the key ways the offenders achieve this aim. Media coverage also encourages copycat threats. As ever, we appreciate your assistance on these important matters.
