Theft of Prescription Medication – North Hobart Pharmacy
Police are investigating the theft of prescription medication from the North Hobart Pharmacy this afternoon.
Approximately 2.05pm today two men entered the North Hobart Pharmacy, 360 Elizabeth Street, North Hobart via the rear entrance. The men were wearing face masks and once inside one of the men told the staff they didn’t want to hurt anyone.
The other man, who was carrying a blue cooler bag, went behind the service counter and took a quantity of prescription medication and placed it into the bag. Both men left through the rear entrance of the pharmacy and ran off in the direction of Condell Place.
Uniform, CIB and Forensic police attended the pharmacy and immediate searches were conducted of the area. Forensic examinations of the scene occurred, and a number of other witnesses have assisted police.
The men were described as wearing dark clothing with black plastic face masks (not character masks).
Acting Inspector Phil Curtis said, “Whilst no one was harmed during this incident and there was no indication the men were armed it would have been very intimidating for staff.”
“Whilst the items taken were prescription medication, there is always a risk for anyone taking such medication, without that medication being properly subscribed.”
