Tasmanian community helping to keep our roads safer
This week Tasmania Police launched its Enough is Enough campaign, scrapping cautions for ‘fatal five’ traffic offences, and calling for community support in detecting dangerous driving.
Police have been undertaking high visibility, major road safety operations across all districts targeting dangerous driving behaviours, and members of the community have been asked to report dangerous driving incidents to police immediately on 131 444, or to upload footage and images to the evidence portal.
“93 evidence uploads have been submitted since the portal was launched on Monday,” said Senior Sergeant Adrian Leary
“One video upload showed a driver dangerously overtaking on the Midland Highway near Conara, crossing double white lines directly in the path of oncoming traffic.”
“That driver, a 30-year-old woman, has been charged with overtaking when unsafe to do so, and unlawfully crossing a dividing road marking. ”
“The video evidence shows that a serious crash was only narrowly avoided, and several road users were put at risk.”
“We want to thank those in the community who are supporting our efforts to keep everyone safe on Tasmanian roads,” he said.
“If you see dangerous driving report it immediately to police on 131 444. If it’s an emergency or a life-threatening situation, ring Triple Zero (000).”
“If you can’t report it at the time but you have footage, submit it to our evidence portal at https://www.police.tas.gov.au/report/”
