Tasmania Police Working with UTAS

Tasmania Police is working with UTAS to encourage any students affected by sexual assault  to come forward.

“Our state is a safe place and university campuses are safe places to be.  However, a culture that allows aggressive and disrespectful behaviours towards women is an issue across the wider the community,” said Assistant Commissioner, Glenn Frame.

Tasmania Police encourages anyone who has been a victim of crime, particularly sexual assault, to report it.

“Sexual assault is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.  Perpetrators of violence must be made accountable for their actions,” said Mr Frame.

“Just as we saw an increase in the reporting of family violence incidents with the focus on bring perpetrators to account and supporting victims, we anticipate an increase in reporting from students.

“It’s important for people to feel supported and have the confidence to speak to police so we can investigate.

“Tasmania Police will continue to work with UTAS to ensure students feel comfortable in coming forward,” said Mr Frame.
