A police officer was arrested and charged today with Rape, Attempted Rape, Aggravated Sexual Assault, Indecent Assault and 5 counts of Assault; all charges are criminal offences under the Criminal Code. 

The Constable, from Hobart, will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The charges relate to incidents alleged to have occurred in October and November 2012.  The officer was off duty at the time the offences are alleged to have occurred.

The officer remains suspended from duty on full pay at this point in time.

It is inappropriate to make any further comment given these matters are before the courts.
