Tasmania Police Officer charged with assault

A police officer was charged today with one count of assault contrary to section 35(1) of the Police Offences Act 1935. 

The Constable, from Hobart, was admitted to bail following his arrest and will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

The charge relates to an incident involving the officer’s wife, which occurred in August 2012 and was subsequently reported to Tasmania Police in November 2012.  The officer was off duty at the time.

The officer remains suspended from duty on full pay at this point in time.

It is inappropriate to make any further comment given that the matter is before the courts.
