Tasmania Police deployment to Christchurch
A contingent of Tasmania Police officers will leave for Christchurch tomorrow morning to assist in the aftermath of last month’s earthquake.
161 Tasmania Police officers volunteered their services after a request for assistance from the New Zealand Police Force. Eleven were selected for duties in Christchurch.
The six Constables, four Sergeants and an Inspector, sourced from each police district, will carry out general policing duties in Christchurch. The officers will have a high visibility role in the city to help restore community confidence, provide reassurance and assist with the community’s recovery.
The deployment is for a period of two weeks, returning to Tasmania on 25 March.
The contingent is in addition to the four Tasmania Police officers who have undertaken Disaster Victim Identification duties in Christchurch.
