Tasmania Police Charity Trust Bike Ride donates to two worthy charities
The Tasmania Police Charity Trust will today present cheques totalling $44,000 to ‘SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY’ and ‘Variety – the Children’s Charity’ following completion of the 2017 annual Charity Bike Ride.
Now in its 11th year, the Ride has raised a total of $423,000 for Tasmanian charities.
“The success of this annual event has exceeded all expectations and we are pleased to continue to support the great work of Tasmanian charities by presenting a cheque for $22,000 to each charity,” said Constable Richard Douglas, organiser of the Ride.
“It is thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of our participants and supporters that we are able to annually donate to help those in need in our community.”
The annual bike ride was held between 1-3 December with 68 riders cycling 400kms from Poatina, through Cradle Mountain, to Devonport.
“The ride truly challenged the riders and pushed them to their limits through heavy rain and freezing conditions,” said Richard.
Tasmanian and BMC pro rider Richie Porte joined the group on day two and rode the 160kms to Cradle Mountain.
“It was a highlight for all cyclists to ride alongside a world class athlete and see him ply his trade, especially up the long gruelling climbs that were part of the day.”
“Ending in freezing conditions everybody was pleased to safely roll into Devonport Bluff having raised a total of $44,000 to donate to charities.”
