Swimmers rescued by members of the public – Policeman’s Point (Ansons Bay)
At about 3:15 pm on Tuesday 12th January 21, a 16 year old female from Coningham, was caught in a strong current, as she was bodyboarding in the vicinity of Policeman’s Point, Ansons’ Bay. The female was swept approximately 100 meters offshore.
Police resources were deployed from both Scottsdale and St Helens, including St Helens Marine. The Westpac Rescue helicopter was also activated.
A member of the public entered the water to assist the female, and with the assistance of a nearby recreational vessel, the female was rescued about 3:45 pm.
The female was shaken, however uninjured as a result of the incident.
Tasmania Police would like to remind members of the community, if you’re enjoying time at a beach and plan on entering the water, spend some time looking for rips and other potential hazards before heading out.
