Student hit by truck at Bridgewater
An 11 year old school boy from Herdsman Cove is in the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition after having been struck by a delivery truck in Green Point Road, Bridgewater, at about 8.51am on Wednesday 21 March 2012.
The boy had just alighted from a stationary Metro bus opposite Bridgewater High School. He crossed the road (north to south) from in front of the stationary bus and was struck by a white Isuzu Delivery truck which was travelling in an easterly direction along Green Point Road.
The roadway at the crash scene was subject to the 40km/h school zone. Electronic speed signs were visible and operational. Excessive speed in this crash was not a factor.
The driver of the truck a 59 year old male from Longford was not injured. The injured boy was conveyed by ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
The crash is being investigated by A/Sergeant Chris CUPIT from Bridgewater Police. He would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash. Please call 131 444.
