Structure Fire, Valentine Street – New Town

At 8.08 p.m. on Sunday 9 September 2012, Police and emergency services were called to a house fire at Valentine Street, New Town.  

The house was fully engulfed in fire on arrival of emergency services.  The area was cordoned off and neighbouring houses were evacuated on either side of the premises.  It was established that there were no occupants of the premises which were determined to be vacant.  The fire was contained to the main dwelling house and also to a garage adjacent containing 3 vehicles including a vintage car.  The garage area has been used as a storage area by the owner.

The premises and garage have been extensively damaged by fire and estimated to be over $200,000.00.   There were no injuries to any person as a result of the fire.

Police are investigating the fire in conjunction with the Tasmania Fire Service and are treating the fire as suspicious at this time.
