Police are investigating an arson reported at about 11:50pm last night, Monday night, 8th September 2014 at the Old Abbotsfield Road Primary School at Claremont.

The site is no longer used as a school and the buildings have been vacant and boarded up for some time.

Entry was gained to a wing of the building and once inside the offenders have set a fire inside. The fire has spread throughout a western wing causing extensive damage.

Tasmania Fire Services attended the scene shortly after as did uniform, CIB and Forensic Services officers. An inspection of the building by the Fire Scene Examiner indicates that the fire has been deliberately lit.

There were no injuries.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have information.
