On Sunday the 20th of March 2022 shortly after 7pm Tasmania Police and Tasmanian Fire Service (TFS) were tasked to attend a structure fire at 143 Westbury Road, Prospect.

Upon arrival the unoccupied building was found to be well-alight. The fire was quickly extinguished by attending fire crews.

The premises is a heritage-listed building known as “The Gatehouse” which has been derelict for a number of years.

It had previously been damaged by fire in December of 2018 and had not been repaired

Investigations by TFS and police have deemed the fire as being deliberately lit.

Police would like to speak with any witnesses the area at the time or anyone with dash cam footage from the area.
