Stolen motor vehicles – Kingborough
In recent weeks there has been an increase in the number of motor vehicles being stolen in the Kingborough municipality, particularly in the Kingston, Kingston Beach, Blackmans Bay and Taroona areas.
Older vehicles that are not fitted with immobilisers are the targets of thieves and the vehicles of choice being the Subaru Liberty, Nissan Skyline, Pintara and Pulsar. A number of vehicles have been recovered by police and returned to the owners, only to be stolen again a few days later.
Police strongly advise the owners of these older model vehicles to either retro-fit an immobiliser, an approximate cost of $300, or for around $45 purchase a good quality steering wheel lock that is fitted whenever the vehicle is left unattended.
Where possible these vehicles should be parked off the street at night and attractive items such as phones, laptops and game consoles should not be left in the vehicle.
