Stolen motor vehicle offences
Police officers on Hobart’s Eastern shore have apprehended three juvenile offenders in Burtonia Street, Rokeby following crimes in Cremorne.
At around 4am police were alerted to a white Nissan Pintara ramming the public phone box in Cremorne. The vehicle had been stolen from Huonville earlier in the night. Police quickly arrived and isolated the roads leading out of South Arm.
Roadspikes were deployed on South Arm Road. Although the driver of the stolen vehicle intentionally drove at police, they still managed to deploy the device and deflate the left hand front wheel.
The vehicle continued to drive until it was on its rims. It was eventually stopped in Burtonia Street, Rokeby. All three offenders were taken into custody. The two males and one female are all aged 14 and currently reside in Kingston. Police will also allege that one of the males was subject to a court ordered curfew for similar offences.
Detectives will continue to investigate the matter and whether the youths were involved in other attempted burglaries of motor vehicles overnight.
“Although this incident was resolved quickly and safely, there was potential for tragedy, particularly with untrained young drivers, driving dangerously on the slippery and wet roads, with seemingly little regard for the consequences of their actions,” said Acting Inspector Jason Hutcheon.
Once again police urge vehicle owners to secure their cars from theft.
The public can report any suspicious or criminal behaviour directly to police on 6230 2111 or information passed to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
