Stolen motor vehicle crashes into house
Just before 5am on Tuesday the 9 March 2011 Glenorchy uniform officers responded to a motor vehicle crash at 23 Vieste Drive, Glenorchy, where a vehicle had collided with a unit at that address.
On arrival police were informed that the vehicle, a Ford Utility, was stolen and that the offenders were seen running from the area immediately after.
The house was extensively damaged and assessed as uninhabitable. An initial estimate of damage is in excess of $100,000.
The vehicle had been stolen from the nearby Glenorchy City Council Depot where it was used to ram through a chain link fence and onto the road. It appears the driver lost control and struck a road sign before over correcting and colliding with the house.
Four other vehicles had also been entered and damaged in the compound.
Police are would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the offenders either at the Council Depot, or who witnessed the crash in Vieste Drive. Please call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
