On the 26 September 2010, the Spirit of Tasmania left the Devonport Port on its planned crossing to Melbourne. During the voyage staff were notified of an alleged serious assault and as a result the Spirit returned to the Devonport Port.

Upon the Spirits arrival, Tasmania Ambulance conveyed a 45 year old male who was suffering lacerations to his face and arms for treatment to the Mersey Community Hospital and a police investigation commenced.

The Spirit of Tasmania recommenced its usual crossing at 1.00am.

The males injuries are not as severe as first thought and police enquires are continuing.
