Speeding vehicles on Sheffield Road

At 10:00am on Thursday 10/12/2015 police detected two speeding vehicles on Sheffield Road near Lower Barrington at 146km in the sign posted 100km/h zone.

Both drivers will be summonsed to appear in court in relation to speeding at 46km/h over the limit and in addition, neither driver had a licence.

These detections come just two days after police caught two motorcyclists travelling above the speed limit on the Ridgley Highway, one at 188km/h.

Sergeant Forteath of Western District Road and Public Order Services said “I find it extremely disappointing that these types of speeding offences continue to occur.  When you get behind the wheel please abide by the sign posted speed limit.  Speeding is an over whelming factor in serious and fatal crashes and it is all too often that innocent people are killed as a result.  Our message is ‘Speed Shatters Lives – Slow Down’, and our focus will continue to be on those people that still believe it is okay to speed.”

Tasmania Police have a rural road policing strategy and attention will continue on speeding offences committed on rural roads, which are over represented in serious and fatal crashes.
