At 6:15pm on Tuesday 8 December 2015 police conducting an unmarked patrol on the Ridgley Highway at Highclere detected a Suzuki motorcycle travelling at 188km/h. A second motorcycle was detected at 123km/h. The Ridgley Highway is a 100 km/h speed zone.
Both motorcyclists were safely intercepted by police a short distance away.
The 44 year old male rider of the Suzuki, from Heybridge, had his motorcycle seized for the unnecessary execution of speed and will be appearing in court to face charges.
The 45 year old male rider of the second motorcycle, from Waratah, has been issued with an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit.
Sergeant Forteath of Western District Road and Public Order Services said “It is concerning that some road users still believe it is acceptable to speed, risking their lives and the lives of others, especially around the Christmas period. There is absolutely no excuse for traveling at such high speed. We continue to focus on the fatal five, with speed being a common contributing factor in serious and fatal crashes. Our message is that ‘Speed Shatters Lives – Slow Down.”
