Speed camera vehicle destroyed by fire
At 7.00 pm Saturday 26 May 2012, a gold coloured Subaru Forester Wagon, (2010 model), was parked on Hobart Road near Marchington Drive, approximately 3 kilometres North of Breadalbane.
The vehicle was at that location for the purpose of deploying a Tasmania Police, Road Safety Camera.
Whilst stationary and unattended at the abovementioned location, unknown persons have set fire to the vehicle. Evidence available indicates the fire was deliberately lit. The fire caused the vehicle and its contents to be totally destroyed.
Members of the public who came upon the fire alerted police immediately.
The vehicle was examined in situ by members of Northern C.I.B. Forensics and Tasmania Fire Service personnel.
This type of crime will not be tolerated and the matter will be subject to an extensive investigation with the view of placing those responsible before Court as soon as practicable.
Launceston Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or observed persons acting suspiciously near the police vehicle, to contact Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 or by calling Tasmania Police on 131 444.
