Police are responding to an incident in Bells Parade, Somerset, in north-west Tasmania.

Police attended the property around 11am this morning after a report of threats being made.

The man barricaded himself inside the residence, while police attempted to negotiate with him.

The man suffered self-inflicted injuries and is currently being transported to North-West Regional Hospital in a serious condition.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing. As is normal practice, a Professional Standards investigation will be conducted into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
