A 5 year old male child was struck by a motorcycle while crossing King Street, Smithton at approximately 3pm this afternoon.

The child was taken to Smithton Hospital with suspected head injuries and will be transferred to Royal Hobart Hospital.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing however speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors.

The motorcyclist was not injured during the crash.
