Smithton burglaries

Overnight on 6th-7th September 2010, two businesses in the Smithton area were entered, with a number of items including a safe and cash stolen. During the same time period a box trailer was taken from Poke Street and a trail bike stolen from Stanley.

Several other motorcycles and businesses in the Smithton area have been targeted over the past few weeks and it is possible that these incidents are related.

Police wish to speak with anyone who may have information relating to these matters, or who may have noticed suspicious activity in Smithton and Stanley overnight 6th-7th September. Police are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen a blue Mitsubishi 4WD in the Brittons Road area around 3:00am on 7th September.

Members of the public are reminded to be vigilant with security of their property as motorcycles are a popular target for thieves. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Kendall Murray at Burnie CIB on 64 34 5291 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Callers can remain anonymous and all information received is treated with confidentiality.
