Site for new Glenorchy Divisional Headquarters
The development of a new police station at Glenorchy is moving forward with the purchase of properties to be redeveloped.
The properties at 315-319 Main Road and 1 Harold Street, Glenorchy, comprising the former Harvey Norman building, will be developed into a contemporary and well-equipped 24 hour policing complex to meet the needs of the Glenorchy community.
The State Government has provided almost $6.1million to undertake the redevelopment of the Glenorchy Divisional Headquarters.
“The property is a significant size; the 3,300sqm building on almost a hectare offers the opportunity to accommodate police and emergency services functions including Marine and Search & Rescue Services, as well as space for future development,” said Assistant Commissioner, Phil Wilkinson.
The relocation of Marine and Search & Rescue Services will realise significant savings in leasing costs.
“The new site will include office accommodation, public enquiries, charging facilities and marine vessel storage,” said Mr Wilkinson.
Plans are being finalised for the redevelopment and the project will be put to tender next month. Work is expected to begin by the end of the year.
