Single Vehicle Crash – Channel Highway near Margate (9-Feb)
A 43 year old Margate man died as the result of a falling tree branch hitting the cabin of his motor vehicle as he drove along Channel Highway north of Margate at approximately 3.10pm on Sunday the 9th day of February 2014.
At this time the deceased who was the sole occupant of a white Ford utility was driving north bound on the Channel Highway. It was raining and the wind was gusting.
The deceased has been driving on a straight section of road. In this area trees line the western side of the road. A tree branch has split away from the main trunk of a tree falling towards the roadway. The tree branch has struck the roof of the utility. Significant damage was caused to the vehicle.
Emergency services attended the scene. The tree branch was cut away from the utility and the deceased was extricated from the vehicle.
The Channel Highway in this area will remain closed whilst the remaining trees are inspected.
The investigating officer, Senior Constable Richard KEYGAN of Kingston Police would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the incident.
