At approximately 11.15am on Tuesday 10 January 2012 Police were notified of a crash involving a single motorcycle on Loongana Road, Nietta. 

Police, SES and Tas Ambulance personnel attended the scene where a 61 year old North West man was located approximately 10 meters down a steep embankment, along with his motorcycle.

Despite the difficult terrain, the man was successfully extricated in a combined effort by the attending emergency services.  He was stabilised and transported to the Launceston General Hospital via the Rescue Helicopter where his condition was described as serious.

At the time of the crash, the man was travelling in a westerly direction and travelling at low speed as he negotiated a corner.   The weather had been showery and it appears as a result of the wet road he has lost control on the corner and continued down the embankment.  Speed and alcohol are not considered to factors in this crash.
