Significant trafficking charges
On 2 December 2014 Northern Drug Investigation Services arrested a 38 year old South Launceston man in relation to significant methylamphetamine trafficking operation in Launceston.
The three month investigation under the name ‘Operation Courier’ resulted in the seizure of over 650 grams of the drug commonly known as ICE, plus further quantities of morphine and prescription drugs.
Police also searched a number of properties and seized a large amount of property allegedly stolen during a number of burglaries and shopliftings throughout Tasmania. The property includes jewellery, paintings, toys, electrical items, power tools and cleaning equipment valued at around $200,000.
The investigators will allege the accused was importing the ICE from the mainland and distributing it in Tasmania. In a seizure in late October at the Launceston Airport police seized over 560 grams from alleged associates of the accused. Charges have already been laid in relation to this incident and investigations are continuing.
It will be alleged the total value of the drugs seized from the 38 year old man, and his alleged associates, amounted to more than $570,000.
The accused will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court today. He has been charged with trafficking offences, firearms offences and possession of stolen property.
