Significant drug seizures and charges in Launceston

Police in Northern Crime and Drug Investigation have made arrests in relation to the trafficking of drugs with a value of $450,000.

The arrests are the result of a six month investigation into the trafficking of Amphetamines into the north of the state involving members of the Rebels Motorcycle Chapter in Launceston.

During the investigation police carried out a number of raids and seized 800g of methyl-amphetamine as well as a quantity of cash.

The street value of the drugs seized is valued in the vicinity of $200,000.  Police will also allege that during this investigation Amphetamine to the value of approximately $250,000 has been sold over a period of 6 months.   

As of today a total of 12 people have now been charged with Trafficking in Methyl-Amphetamine.   This operation is ongoing and it is expected that further arrests will be made in coming months.

Of the 12 people charged, one is a senior member of the Launceston chapter of the Rebels Motorcycle group and the other 11 are either members, past members or associates of the motorcycle group.

A member of the Outlaws Motorcycle Chapter in Launceston and an associate of that club have also been charged with Methyl-Amphetamine related offences as a result of this operation.

All those charged have been summonsed to appear in court in the next few months.
