Shooting Incident Tolosa Street Glenorchy
Around 8.30pm on the evening of Saturday 26 May 2012 Glenorchy Police were called to reports of a dispute involving a firearm at Tolosa Street, Glenorchy
Upon police attendance a number of persons were detained.
Investigations consequently identified that a personal dispute had occurred between two parties one residing in the units at Tolosa Street, and another group also from the Glenorchy area but travelling to Tolosa Street in two motor vehicles. It is apparent this dispute had its genesis in an argument the previous evening.
In the course of the dispute at Tolosa Street a firearm has been produced and discharged on at least two occasions. No person was injured as a result of this firearm, believed to be a shotgun, being discharged.
Whilst this dispute has occurred a person resident in a separate unit and unrelated to the events occurring has approached the parties and been threatened. This person has then returned to his unit and it is alleged fired two further shots into the air from his firearm, also a shotgun.
In total six persons were subsequently detained by police, five of whom will appear before the Magistrates Court later to day on charges including Aggravated Assault. A further person has been interviewed, charged and bailed by police on firearms offence charges. This person is aged 49 years.
Of the five persons appearing in court they include two 29 year old males from Glenorchy, a 36 year old male from New Norfolk, a 36 year old female from Glenorchy and a 20 year old female also from Glenorchy.
It is intended that these five persons will appear in the Magistrates Courtat 6.30pm today.
