Shooting Incident at Parramatta, Sydney

On behalf of Tasmania Police, Commissioner Hine has offered condolences to our New South Wales police and state service colleagues, and the family of the deceased man, following the tragic shooting incident yesterday afternoon.

“It is believed to be an unprovoked and unexpected incident and our thoughts are with our NSW colleagues at this time,” he said.

While not appropriate to make specific comment about the Parramatta incident, Commissioner Hine reiterated the belief that NSW Police Service is following a specific line of enquiry relating to the incident and there are not believed to be any links or threats to any other jurisdiction.

In what can only be described as a concerning security environment Commissioner Hine has reiterated to all staff and police members that increased vigilance is key to our collective safety.  A link to a previously issued document containing personal and professional, safety and security advice has been republished.  All staff are advised to re-acquaint themselves with the content.

“It is a tragic but timely reminder to all employees to ensure we maintain high levels of vigilance when going about our daily business,” said Commissioner Darren Hine.
