Tasmania Police has released the name of the man killed by a shark near Maria Island on Saturday 25 July 2015.

The deceased was 46 year old Damian Johnson of Kingston.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

Mr Johnson’s family have asked that their privacy is respected and that media do not attempt to make further contact with them.

Mr Johnson’s brother-in-law David Paynter said: “As everyone can appreciate this is an extremely devastating and difficult time for everyone involved and those that Damian loved and that loved him. We ask that our privacy be respected by all at this time as we begin to deal with this unimaginable grief.”

The family would also appreciate it if media refrain from publishing photos of Mr Johnson’s daughter.

Subject to weather conditions, Marine Police will undertake further searches along the coast for Mr Johnson’s remains or equipment.
