The Bureau of Meteorology have issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Damaging Winds for people in the King Island, Western, North West Coast and parts of the Central Plateau Forecast Districts.

• Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Burnie, Currie, Smithton, Strahan and Queenstown.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next

several hours.

A fast moving squall line of thunderstorms, associated with a cold front, is approaching from the

west in a northwesterly flow.

In preparation for the expected weather conditions, the State Emergency Service has an Operations Centre in Burnie on standby, and SES Units are ready to respond to incidents that may occur as a result of the weather conditions.

The SES will continue to monitor the weather situation across the North West of the State.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

• Move your car under cover or away from trees.
• Secure loose outdoor items.
• Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
• Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.

• Beware of damaged trees and power lines, trees & limbs may fall in these conditions
• Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings
• Manage pets and livestock
• Be prepared in case of power outages
• Disaster preparedness is a shared responsibility
