EVACUATION INSTRUCTION – INVERMAY & LONGFORD

Due to rising flood levels of the South Esk River, the State Emergency Service advises the following evacuation procedures


Invermay

  • People in Invermay are advised to evacuate NOW as a precaution.
  • Relocate to the Evacuation Centres at:
    • the Silverdome in Prospect, or
    • the University of Tasmania at Newnham
  • There will be emergency services in the area. Please follow their instructions.
  • If you are unable to self-evacuate please call 132 500 for assistance.

Longford

  • People in Longford should look at your individual flood evacuation plan.
  • If you wish to evacuate as a precaution you should do so now.
  • You can go to:
    • Longford Town Hall, Wellington Street.

Please check on neighbours, particularly the elderly and vulnerable.

Members of the public can contact Tasmanian Emergency Information Service on 1800 567 567.

Advice:

  • Follow instructions of emergency services personnel in the area.
  • Do not go near flood waters, drains or culverts.
  • Do not drive, walk, swim or cycle through flood waters.
  • Move possessions to higher ground
  • Beware of damaged trees and keep clear of fallen powerlines and floodwaters surrounding them.
  • Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
  • Check on livestock and pets to ensure they are safe from floodwaters.
  • Drive to the conditions. If you don’t need to drive in the wet, stay indoors.
  • Listen to ABC local radio or check ses.tas.gov.au for regular updates.
  • Road closures check police.tas.gov.au/community-alerts.
