SES Advice – Wind Warning Update (31-July)

The Bureau of Meteorology have advised that severe weather in the form of destructive winds about the south of the state and damaging winds elsewhere will occur tonight.

Destructive winds 60 to 70 km/h with gusts to 130 km/h are forecast for the South East forecast district and Southern parts of the Western and East Coast forecast districts.

Wet ground due to recent heavy rain may make trees fall more easily in windy conditions.

From Tuesday onwards Tasmania SES volunteer units across the Tasmania have attended a number of requests for assistance including structural damage, roof damage, trees down or damaged, flood damage, water inundation and requests for sandbags.

SES incident management teams and response teams will again be activated tonight in preparation for the predicted strong winds. The focus of planning will be on being ready for damaging winds, particularly in the South. SES will continue to work closely with other emergency services and emergency management stakeholders.

The State Emergency Service advise that people should:

  • Secure all loose outside equipment. Turn trampoline mats upside down or tie them down.
  • Supervise all children closely.
  • Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
  • Manage pets and livestock.
  • Where safe – clear drains and gutters on premises prior to severe weather arriving.
  • Be prepared in case of power outages.

  • Do not walk, ride or drive through flood waters.
