SES Advice: Strong Winds – Hobart – 6 August 2014

The Bureau of Meteorology have advised that damaging winds will continue to affect Southern Tasmania until approximately 8pm this evening.

SES, police and power companies have deployed emergency crews in response to reports of trees over roads and in other public places in southern Tasmania including the greater Hobart area.

SES are deploying units to reports of roof, building and tree damage and an Incident Command Centre has been established.

SES advise all commuters to take extra care when travelling home during peak hour this evening.

The State Emergency Service also advise that people should:

  • Supervise all children closely.
  • Remain indoors and limit travel where possible until after the winds have passed.
  • Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
  • Manage pets and livestock.
  • Be prepared in case of power outages.
  • Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
  • Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
