Serious two vehicle crash – Tea Tree Road, Tea Tree
Police are investigating a serious crash involving a car and a truck on Tea Tree Road this morning.
Shortly before 12pm, police and emergency services were called to the scene, near the intersection with Middle Tea Tree Road.
Initial inquiries suggest a Mini F56 hatch travelling south, crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided head on with the truck which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The impact caused significant frontal damage to the car, and the truck flipped on to its side, completely blocking the roadway.
It was transporting about 29 tonnes of timber logs at the time, which were then strewn across the road.
The driver of the Mini, a man in his 50s from Austins Ferry, was airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries. His passenger was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The truck driver, a man in his 30s from Sorell, was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing and police urge anyone with information to contact Bridgewater Police on 131 444.
Tea Tree Road remains closed while the scene is cleared. Motorists are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
