Serious two vehicle crash – Midland Highway, Oatlands
At 7.30am on 26 January 2017, police and emergency services personnel attended the scene of a two vehicle crash on the Midland Highway at the southern entrance to Oatlands.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a silver Holden SUV travelling north was performing a right hand turn into Oatlands when it collided with a red Toyota sedan travelling south. It appears the Holden turned into the path of the oncoming Toyota sedan.
As a result of the collision occupants of both vehicles sustained injuries. A nine year old boy passenger from the Toyota sedan sustained chest injuries and was airlifted from the scene by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and transferred to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Three other people were transferred by road to the Royal Hobart Hospital, all with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing, speed, alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in the cause of the crash.
