Serious Two Vehicle Crash – Midland Highway, Kempton

Police are investigating a serious two vehicle crash on the Midland Highway at Kempton yesterday.

At approximately 4.50pm on Monday 6 May 2019, a serious two vehicle crash occurred on the Midlands Highway at the entrance to the Caltex Mood Food Road House.

The crash occurred when a 2009 white Toyota Prius, being driven by a 75 year old man from Woodbridge exited the road house and attempted to turn right onto the Midland Highway into the path of a black 2018 north bound Toyota Hilux being driven by a 27 year old woman from Newstead. As a result the Toyota Hilux was unable to avoid a collision and collided with the driver’s side of the Toyota Prius.

Following the crash the man was trapped in his vehicle for some time and once extricated by emergency services personnel he was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter where he remains in a critical condition. The female was uninjured as a result of the crash.

Traffic was diverted around the crash scene for approximately five hours whilst crash investigators and forensic personnel investigated the scene.
