Polcie are investigating a serious two-vehicle crash on the Lyell Highway, Wayatinah.

Around 3:30pm a Toyota Landcruiser travelling north-west collided with a Holden Barina travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Landcruiser was airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment and is in a stable condition.

The driver of the Barina sustained minor injuries.

The Lyell Highway was closed for 4 hours.
