Serious traffic offences
Western District Traffic Services have confiscated a vehicle belonging to a 25 year old Rosebery man, who is alleged to have committed a number of serious traffic offences on the 30th of May.
Police patrolling the Ridgley Highway south of Hampshire at around 3:50pm detected a blue 2005 Commodore SSV sedan travelling towards Burnie at 142km/h in a 100km/h zone. Police activated lights and sirens, indicating to the driver of the Commodore to pull over. The driver instead accelerated away, reaching speeds in excess of 200km/h. Police then lost sight of the vehicle.
Around 5:20pm, police located the Commodore, now travelling north on Minna Road towards Heybridge. As police turned to follow the vehicle, it again sped away. Another police unit attempted to intercept the Commodore at the intersection of Bass Highway and Minna Road, however the driver again failed to stop, and continued east on Bass Highway, towards Ulverstone.
After further investigation, police were able to determine the identity of the driver, and later that evening, he handed himself in at Rosebery Police Station.
The man was today interviewed by officers from Western District Traffic Services, and will be summonsed to appear in Court. His car was confiscated indefinitely, and police will make application for its forfeiture to the Crown.
Police would like to speak with any witnesses who saw the Commodore on Ridgley Highway, Minna Road or Bass Highway.
