Serious three car crash – Bass Highway / Mount Street Junction, Burnie
At approximately 13.50 hrs on Sunday the 15th of June 2014, a three car crash occurred at the junction of the Bass Highway and Mount Street at Burnie.
The crash occurred when a north bound blue Nissan Pulsar hatch travelling on Mount Street was hit by an east bound blue Mitsubishi Triton dual cab utility travelling on Bass Highway. The Nissan was spun 180 degrees by the crash and shunted into the incorrect lanes where it came to rest against the front of a south bound white Toyota Landcruiser traveling on Mount Street in the opposite direction. It appears that one of the vehicles involved failed to stop at a red light.
As a result of the crash, the front seat passenger of the Nissan, a 27 year old female from Midway Point sustained critical injuries. She was conveyed to the North West Regional Hospital at Burnie. The 19 year old male driver of the Nissan, also of Midway point sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 46 year old female from Upper Castra, sustained minor injuries. The 25 year old male driver of the Toyota from Burnie was uninjured.
Police closed the roads surrounding the junction for a period of three and a half hours and traffic was diverted around the area while Crash Investigators conducted their investigation into the crash.
Members from Burnie Uniform Police, Wynyard Uniform Police, Western District Road and Public Order Services, Western District Forensic Services and Western District Crash Investigation attended the scene, in conjunction with Tasmanian Fire Service and Tasmanian Ambulance Service personnel.
