Serious single vehicle motorcycle crash – Bass Highway, Howth

At approximately 04.50 hrs on Wednesday the 26th of March 2014, Police were called to attend a serious single vehicle crash on the Bass Highway at Howth.

The crash involved a 2014 red Honda CBR500 motorcycle being ridden by a 19 year old Burnie man.

As a result of the crash the rider, who held a learners drivers licence, has sustained serious injuries and is in the North West Regional Hospital in a serious but stable condition. He was wearing proper motorcycle apparel at the time of the crash and the motorcycle was a LAMS approved motorcycle.

Traffic was diverted around the crash scene for approximately 4 hours whilst police conducted investigations at the scene. Police from Devonport Uniform, Western District Forensic Services, Western District Road and Public Order Services and Western District Crash Investigation attended the scene.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated and Police cannot speculate upon causative factors at this point. The name of the rider is not being released by police.
