Serious Pedestrian Crash on Boyer Road, Bridgewater, at 3.55pm on Saturday the 6 August 2016

A 31 year old male (international tourist) from Hong Kong is in the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition after having been struck by a motor vehicle on Boyer Road approximately 3 kilometres west of Bridgewater at 3.55pm on Saturday the 6th day of August 2016.

The tourist had been taking photographs of the River Derwent from the grass verge on the eastern side of Boyer Road. After taking the photographs he has run across the west bound lane towards the northern side of the road. His vehicle being parked on this side of the road.

At this time a white Toyota Land Cruiser wagon was being driven in a westerly direction along Boyer Road by a 29 year old man from Old Beach. The driver observed the pedestrian and attempted to take evasive action but unfortunately the tourist was struck by the front passenger side of the vehicle.

The vehicle came to an immediate stop. The driver and his 18 month old son who was also in the vehicle were not injured. Excessive speed wasn’t a factor.

The investigating officer, Constable Chris LOVELL of Bridgewater Police like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash.
