Serious motor vehicle crash at Kings Meadows

Tasmania Police is seeking witnesses following a serious crash between a car and a motorcycle in Kings Meadows earlier today.

Police and emergency services were called to a crash between a Range Rover SUV and a black Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle shortly before 12:30pm at the intersection of Ernest and Bond Streets, Kings Meadows.

“Although the investigation is in its infancy, it appears the rider of the motorcycle has attempted to overtake the SUV on the right hand side as the SUV was turning right.  The rider has been thrown from the motorcycle and became pinned under the SUV,” said Sergeant Felicity Boyd from Launceston Police.

“Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania Fire Service worked together to safely free the rider and transport him to the Launceston General Hospital in a stable condition.”

The 18-year-old male motorcyclist, from Kings Meadows, is suspected of having a broken collar bone. The 53-year-old female SUV driver, also from Kings Meadows, was uninjured.

Initial investigations confirm excessive speed, drugs or alcohol weren’t contributing factors to the crash. Investigations are continuing.
