Serious Motor Vehicle Accident – Cradle Mountain Road

A man is in a critical condition in the Royal Hobart Hospital following a single vehicle rollover on Cradle Mountain Road, Moina, earlier today.

On Thursday 11 January 2018 at approximately 3:20pm Police were called to attend a single vehicle crash on Cradle Mountain Road, Moina.

 

Police believe a mauve Hyundai Excel lost control while overtaking several vehicles and left the road at this location before rolling several times.

 

Damage to the vehicle required Tasmania Fire Service and SES to extract the driver of the vehicle prior to transport to hospital.

 

The driver of the vehicle, a 37 year old man, sustained serious injuries and due to the nature of his injuries he was transported by Tasmania Police Rescue Helicopter to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment.

 

The 37 year old female passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to the North West Regional Hospital for treatment.

 

Preliminary investigations of the crash scene indicate that the manner of driving, alcohol and excessive speed with regard to road conditions may have contributed to the crash.

 

Western Crash Investigation Services, Ulverstone Police and members of Western Traffic Services attended the crash with the road closed to all traffic whilst the scene was documented.

 

Police would ask members of the public that may have observed the vehicle in the area of Cradle Mountain Road prior to the accident to contact the Burnie Police Station and leave their details.
