SERIOUS FAMILY VIOLENCE ASSAULT AT NEWNHAM

Launceston CIB are investigating a serious family violence incident that occurred between a 29 year old man and his wife at their house at Newnham last night.

Police and Ambulance members were called to the address shortly after 9.30pm last night as a result of a call to 000 by the woman. 

Police found the pair in the bedroom and the victim had knife wounds and bruising to her neck.  She was taken by ambulance to the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) for treatment.

The man was arrested at the house without further incident and taken to the Launceston Police Station.

The woman underwent surgery on her injuries this morning and is in a stable condition.

“Investigations are continuing and the man remains in police custody,” said Detective Inspector Scott Flude.
