Serious crash, Wilmot Road, Forth

At about 7:20am this morning, a two vehicle crash occurred on Wilmot Road, about 20 kilometres south of Forth.

A yellow Mitsubishi hatch was being driven north by a 27-year-old woman from Lower Wilmot when it collided with a small Isuzu truck travelling south.  The truck was being driven by a 31-year-old Ulverstone man.

Both drivers were trapped in the vehicles and emergency service personnel were required to free them.

The driver and sole occupant of the Mitsubishi hatch sustained serious injuries and was taken to the North West Regional Hospital. The driver and sole occupant of the truck was taken to the Mersey Community Hospital with injuries.

Wilmot Road was closed for about four hours while investigations were carried out.

Police from Western District Traffic Services, Forensic Services, Tasmanian Ambulance Service, Tasmanian Fire Services, SES personnel and Western Accident Investigation Services attended the scene.

At the time of the crash, the road surface was wet.  Investigations are continuing into the cause of the collision.
