At 6:45 pm Sunday 13 March 2016 Police and Emergency Services were called to a Serious Crash involving 2 vehicles on the Tasman Highway at the intersection of Shark Point Road, Sorell.

It appears that a blue Ford Laser Hatch being driven by a 26 year old Tasmanian man was travelling on Shark Point Road toward the Tasman Highway when the vehicle crossed to the wrong side of Shark Point Road and crashed into the passenger side of a white Mitsubishi Triton dual cab utility.

The Triton was being driven by a 43 year old Richmond man and his 7 year old son was a passenger in the vehicle travelling out of Sorell on the Tasman Highway.

All involved in the crash were taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment.

As a result of the crash the Tasman Highway between Brinktop Road, Penna and Shark Point Road, Sorell was closed until after midnight.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated, however at this time speed appears to have been a contributing factor.

Police are asking anyone who may have observed either of the two vehicles prior to the collision to contact the Sorell Police Station on (03) 6173 2988 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
