Serious crash – Tasman Highway, Rocky Hills

On Saturday 17th July at approximately 2.50pm Police were notified of a single vehicle motorcycle crash on the Tasman Highway, Rocky Hills, approximately 10km south of Swansea.

A 19 year old male rider had failed to negotiate a right hand bend and collided with the guard rail.  The rider was thrown from the motorcycle over the guard rail and as a result sustained serious injuries.  The rider was stabilised by Ambulance Tasmania and a doctor at the scene with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter used to convey the rider to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition where he underwent emergency surgery.

The rider was one of a group of 4 riders who had ridden to Swansea from Hobart and were returning to Hobart.
