Serious Crash – Ridgley Highway, Hampshire
A serious collision occurred this morning at about 9.55am on the Ridgley Highway at Hampshire, near the junction with Kingsclere Road.
Police believe a silver Ford Econovan was being driven south behind a fully laden B-Double Kenworth tanker when the van pulled out to overtake. During the overtake, a north bound vehicle appeared. It is understood that all three vehicles were side by side at one point. The van collided with the front right corner of the prime mover and was subsequently speared across to the left side of the road. The van collided with an embankment and rolled a number of times before coming to stop on the side of the road.
The driver and sole occupant of the van, a 63 year old male from Main Street, Zeehan was trapped in the cabin of the van for a short time before being cut free. He was initially going to be transported to hospital by helicopter however his condition was downgraded and the helicopter called off. He is in the North West Regional Hospital with head, chest and abdomen injuries.
The driver of the B-Double was a 57 year old male from Devonport. He was uninjured.
At the time of the collision, police believe the weather was foggy with a light drizzle. Police would like to speak with the occupants of the third vehicle involved in this incident as they may be able to shed some more light on what occurred.
Police would also like to remind the motoring public that they should have their headlights on in adverse weather conditions or conditions with reduced visibility.
